Feeding Your Cat

Feline Blogger Purdy trials the new feeding suggestions from the International Cat Care

A couple of weeks ago I was asked to change my eating habits. “Try this new plan, Purdy, you’ll love it – and you get to eat 5 times a day.” I was sold!

Err, so two small points…..

1. I’m still eating the same amount of food in a day.

2. I have to work for my food!??!!

Okay, so I was dubious, but true to my journalistic nature I thought I’d give it a go. I packed up my usual feeding bowl and tried out a few homemade feeders.

The eating plan has been devised by experts at International Cat Care. The plan reflects how a cat would eat in the wild (as cute as us cats look, we are not far removed from our “wild” roots).

The plan is simple:

1. Split feeding into at least 5 times per day.

2. Spread the meals over 24 hours.

3. Use puzzle feeders instead of a bowl.

4. Change the location of food.

5. Always ensure fresh water is available.

Following these steps provides your cat with both physical and mental stimulation; boosting wellbeing.

It was strange at first, but I have to admit that I’m enjoying my new feeding plan. I’m no longer gulping down my food and then feeling hungry later as I’m regularly eating during the day.

I’m also feeling more stimulated by working for my food. Not only am I using the feeders, I also have some of my food hidden around the house so I have to search for it – call me Huntress Purdy!

My bowl can stay on the shelf, thanks!
